This legend had puzzled several generations of the Baskerville family. Recently, the new owner of the Baskerville Hall -- Sir Charles died a sudden and tragic death. Moreover, the Baskerville Hound had been spotted before the case happened: giant, shining, and hideous like a devil. The monster proved to be very much similar to the one in the scaring legend.
According to Doctor Mortimer's description, Sir Charles was deeply convinced by the legend. During the month before he died, he was nervous to the extreme. He had planned to go to London to stay for several months. However, just on the night before he left, he died when he was walking to the end of a narrow lane of the manor. He was investigated to die of a heart failure in the dissection of his body. Doctor Mortimer had examined his body in the scene of the case. He found there were clear footprints of a hound besides those of the dead. Now, the nephew of the dead, Sir Henry, the successor of a large sum of properties, would arrive in London, and then would go to Baskerville. The doctor came to Holmes for help because he was afraid that Henry would meet with the same disaster.
